Season pass

Rewards

Rewards are the outcomes players receive after completing quests, reaching milestones, redeeming coins, or meeting another campaign condition.

Season Pass supports four reward types: XP, Coin, Game Chest, and Event. These types describe the main system outcome. Discount codes, discounts, videos, recommendations, album packs, certificates, and chance-based outcomes are rewards or reward formats, not separate reward types.

Good reward design makes the next step clear for the player. After receiving a reward, players should understand what they received, whether they can use it immediately, and whether they need to claim, redeem, wait, or complete another step.

For companies, rewards help turn participation into motivation. They give players a reason to complete quests, return to the campaign, spend earned coins, unlock value, or reach the next milestone.

How Rewards Work

Most rewards follow the same basic flow:

  1. The player completes a quest, milestone, redemption, or campaign action.
  2. The system determines which outcome or reward the player should receive.
  3. The player receives progress, currency, or a claimable reward.
  4. The player sees what they received and what to do next.
  5. If fulfillment or verification is required, the reward follows the correct delivery or confirmation flow.

The reward type defines the main outcome category. The concrete reward, its content, and the action that unlocks it are configured separately through quests, milestones, store redemptions, or campaign rules.

Core Reward Types

Core reward types describe the main category the campaign grants to the player.

XP and Coin help move the player through the Season Pass and create the campaign economy. Game Chest rewards create map exploration moments. Event rewards attach value to in-app player actions or achievements. The concrete reward details are configured separately.

XP

XP represents player progress.

Players can receive XP after completing quests, reaching milestones, or participating in campaign activities. XP helps players move through levels, unlock milestones, qualify for achievements, or track their overall campaign progress.

Use XP when the campaign needs to show advancement over time.

For example, a player might complete a quest or milestone and receive XP that moves them closer to the next level.

Coin

Coin represents spendable campaign currency.

Players can receive coins through quests, milestones, or campaign actions, then use those coins to claim rewards, offers, items, bundles, or other campaign value.

Use coins when the campaign needs a reward economy where players can collect value and decide how to spend it later.

For example, a player might earn coins from several quests, then use those coins in the reward store to claim an item, discount code, or album pack.

Game Chest

Game Chest represents a literal chest placed on the game map.

Players can find a Game Chest while walking through the game map. The chest is part of the map experience, not just a bundle or pack shown in a store.

Use Game Chest when the reward should be discovered through map movement and opened from the game world. A chest can contain one fixed reward, or a set of possible rewards where the player receives one result from that set.

For example, a player might walk through the map, find a chest at a location, open it, and receive one reward selected from the configured chest rewards.

Event

Event represents a reward triggered by an in-app event or condition.

Players can receive an Event reward when they complete a defined action or state inside the app, such as completing an album, collecting all items of a certain rarity, completing a quest, opening an album, or reaching another configured campaign condition.

Event rewards can be guaranteed or chance-based. A campaign can grant one reward 100% of the time when the event happens, or define multiple possible rewards with different percentages.

For example, completing a full album might always grant one reward. Opening an album might have a 1% chance to grant one pack, a 5% chance to grant another reward, and no reward for the remaining outcomes.

Reward Examples

Reward examples are concrete rewards players receive after completing the required campaign action, reaching a milestone, using coins, or meeting another campaign condition.

These rewards are different from the reward type taxonomy. XP, Coin, Game Chest, and Event describe the main category. Discount codes, discounts, videos, recommendations, album packs, certificates, and chance-based outcomes describe the actual value, content, offer, recognition, or outcome the player receives.

Rewards can include discount codes, discounts, videos, chance-based outcomes, recommendations, album packs, and certificates.

Commerce and Discount Rewards

Commerce and Discount Rewards give players Shopify-backed purchase value.

Use these rewards when the player should receive a Shopify promo code, Shopify checkout discount, or Shopify purchase-specific offer after completing the required campaign action, redeeming coins, or reaching a campaign condition.

Shopify Discount Codes

Shopify Discount Codes are generated by Shopify when the player claims the reward.

Use them when the campaign should create a Shopify code-based discount for the player. The player receives or copies the promo code and enters it during Shopify checkout.

For example, a player might complete a quest and receive a Shopify-generated code for a checkout discount, free item, or special offer.

Use Shopify Discount Codes when Shopify should generate the code at claim time.

Discount Codes

Discount Codes are preloaded one-use codes provided by the client.

Use them when the campaign receives a set of codes and should hand them out one by one as players claim the reward. These codes can be Shopify codes, codes from another commerce platform, partner voucher codes, offline redemption codes, or any other externally managed one-use code.

Each player receives one unused code from the pool. When the same player opens the reward again, the app shows the same assigned code instead of assigning a new one.

Use Discount Codes when codes already exist outside the reward claim flow, or when the codes need to work outside Shopify.

Code TypeHow It WorksUse When
Shopify Discount CodesShopify generates the code when the player claims the rewardThe reward should create a Shopify checkout discount
Discount CodesThe campaign receives a preloaded pool of one-use codes and assigns one per playerThe same reward pattern must work across Shopify, non-Shopify, partner, or offline redemption flows

Partial Discount Reward

A Partial Discount Reward gives the player a Shopify-backed discount on a specific part of a purchase.

Use it when the player should receive a targeted discount, such as a discount on a specific item, category, product group, reward item, or campaign offer.

For example, a player might unlock a discount that only applies to selected products or a specific reward item.

Use this reward when the value the player receives is a targeted discount rather than a full cart discount.

Content Rewards

Content Rewards give players immediate value or media access.

Use these rewards when the campaign wants the player to receive something engaging right away, such as exclusive content.

Video Reward

A Video Reward gives the player access to video content.

Use it when the reward should be a piece of media, such as a brand story, product reveal, educational video, creator content, event highlight, behind-the-scenes clip, or exclusive campaign video.

For example, a player might complete a quest and unlock a video message, product teaser, or event recap.

Use this reward when the value the player receives is campaign content or media access.

Recommendation Rewards

Recommendation Rewards are claimable rewards that give players a suggested item, offer, content piece, product, or next action.

Use this reward when the campaign wants the player to receive guidance as the reward. The recommendation can help direct the player toward something relevant based on their completed action, quiz result, preference, profile, or campaign progress.

Recommendation Reward

A Recommendation Reward gives the player a recommendation.

Use it when the value the player receives is a suggested product, offer, content piece, campaign path, reward option, or next step.

For example, a player might complete a quiz and receive a recommended product. Another player might answer a preference question and receive a suggested reward, content path, or next campaign action.

Use this reward when the reward should help the player decide what to explore, claim, buy, watch, or do next.

Album Pack Rewards

Album Pack Rewards give players card packs for the album feature.

Use this reward when the campaign should give the player a pack they can open to collect cards for an album. Pack Bundles are part of album collection, not a generic bundle of unrelated rewards.

Pack Bundle

A Pack Bundle gives the player a pack for collecting album cards.

Use it when the player should receive a pack that adds cards to their collection.

For example, a player might redeem coins or trigger an Event reward and receive a pack that helps them complete an album.

Use Pack Bundle when the reward is specifically an album pack, not when the campaign needs a generic multi-item reward.

Recognition Rewards

Recognition Rewards are claimable rewards that give players proof of completion, achievement, or participation.

Use this reward when the campaign wants the player to receive something official or shareable after reaching a goal, completing a journey, finishing a challenge, or meeting a campaign requirement.

Certificate

A Certificate gives the player a completion or achievement certificate.

Use it when the reward should recognize what the player has accomplished. Certificates are useful for campaigns that involve learning, training, challenges, milestone completion, event participation, or achievement-based journeys.

For example, a player might complete all required quests in a campaign and receive a certificate that confirms their completion.

Use this reward when the value the player receives is official recognition or proof of achievement.

Fulfillment Modes

Fulfillment Modes describe how a claimable reward is delivered to the player.

Some rewards are fulfilled immediately inside the campaign experience. Others may require checkout, redemption, staff handling, external systems, or offline delivery.

Season Pass commonly uses three player-facing fulfillment patterns:

PatternWhat the Player DoesWhat Happens
Offline handoffShows the reward QR code or reward screen to staffStaff validates the claim and gives the player the item
Shopify online flowOpens the Shopify-backed reward flowThe player completes the reward through Shopify product, cart, checkout, coupon, or discount behavior
Raffle entryClaims or qualifies for the rewardThe player enters a raffle for that item and may win later

Raffle entry is the default pattern when the reward is not configured as an offline handoff or Shopify-backed online flow. The player does not receive the item immediately. They receive an entry into the raffle, and the campaign awards the item later according to the draw rules.

Online Fulfillment

Online fulfillment means the player uses the reward through the Shopify integration.

Use it when the reward needs to be redeemed through Shopify checkout, a Shopify product page, a Shopify cart discount, or another Shopify-backed purchase flow.

For example, a player might receive a Shopify Discount Code and use it during Shopify checkout, or unlock a cart discount that applies to a Shopify purchase.

Use online fulfillment when the reward value is connected to Shopify.

Offline Fulfillment

Offline fulfillment means the reward is delivered or validated outside the app.

Use it when the reward needs to be handled by staff, claimed at a venue, picked up in-store, redeemed at an event booth, or completed through an offline process.

For example, a player might show a reward QR code or reward screen at a booth to claim a physical item.

Use offline fulfillment when the reward depends on a real-world handoff or staff-supported process.

Raffle Fulfillment

Raffle fulfillment means the player enters a draw for the reward instead of receiving the item immediately.

Use it when the campaign has limited inventory, wants winners selected later, or should let many eligible players compete for the same item.

For example, a player might claim a sneaker reward, enter the raffle for that sneaker, and later receive the item only if selected as a winner.

Use raffle fulfillment as the default player-facing behavior when the reward is not fulfilled through Shopify and does not require an immediate offline handoff.

Reward instructions should clearly explain what the player needs to do next, such as spending coins, copying a code, applying a discount, showing a reward screen, or completing checkout.
